Modern Sofa Design

One of the first decisions when purchasing a sofa is the choice between a classic sofa design and a more modern minimalist design. Obviously there are more general decisions to make such as price, size, etc. But with regard to design decisions this is one of the first that has to be made.

Often one of the big problems is picking a sofa that will look good in the location for which it is intended to be positioned. It is worth considering redesigning a space to accommodate the sofa of your dreams. After all, it is the sofa that will last longer than the current design you have that for sure.

If you are a new buyer looking to fit out your house for the first time I would recommend picking a sofa regardless of the current decor of the house. Do not compromise on the sofa because it is the one thing that you are stuck with. New sofas lose value extremely quickly and you are un-likely to have much luck selling a second hand sofa.

Classic sofas can work well in modern houses if executed correctly. French ornate renaissance furniture works particularly well in modern houses at it is sleek and not bulky like a lot of older style designs. When mixing old with new the trick is to create large contrasts in style but tie things together by following the rules of modern design. Too many patterns and intricate designs cancel each other out. The best looking houses are subtle in there use of pattern and ornate furniture. If you have lots of bold furniture already then stick to modern minimalist sofa design. If however your current furniture selection is understated and doesn’t make a statement then maybe it would be a good idea to opt for a more decorative and classic sofa.

There are many considerations to make, but before you make a decision always carry out lots of research. Look at interior design blogs/websites, buy magazines, and visit showrooms. Basically be careful not to rush the decision like many people do, because you will regret it massively if you don’t make a good choice.
